Meeting with a psychiatrist is a prudent first step when entering into mental health treatment. As a psychiatrist, I am the only mental health physician who has had the benefit of studying both medicine and psychology. I integrate this information when formulating the best treatment plan for you. My additional training with children and adolescents has helped tremendously in fully understanding the gamut of mental health disorders and the way they manifest from early to late age.
Choosing a competent psychiatrist is a choice you will make with caution and care. Creating an atmosphere of openness, comfort and respect is what I strive for in my practice. This atmosphere leads to the shedding of the walls, and a direct examination into the inner workings of the mind. My easy going nature has the tendency to make my patients feel very comfortable, as if they are confiding in a friend. The depth and inquisitive way questions are asked assure them they are in the hands of a caring and knowledgeable clinician. In my practice, I follow an evidence based approach to diagnosis and treatment.
I view each person I treat as a new voyage of discovery, a new life story, a new person. I chose psychiatry because of a desire to understand the human mind and spirit as well as the human brain. Psychiatry, as a specialty, differs significantly from the rest of medical specializations, particularly because of the specificity of the relationship with the patient. I have a strong propensity for making people feel at ease. I am empathetic, but know when to be firm.
Reducing the stigma of mental illness, and reducing the feelings of shame in regard to
a diagnosis is of primary importance to me. I am an avid reader of journals and books, and I strive to always learn and improve my skills.

Therapist
As a clinician, I am a firm believer in the process of development and personal growth. I believe my clients are the experts of their own lives and already possess all the tools needed to acquire the change they are looking for.
I work to provide my clients with a non judgmental space in order to unlock those tools and use them to overcome challenging circumstances. Through this process we can better understand and improve the relationship we have with others and ourselves.
I use systemic therapy to help individuals, couples and members of a family to understand each other better, provide insight, change negative behaviors and resolve conflicts. This approach allows me to look at an individual and the family as a whole, with the idea that we live in a world where systems influence one another. I have been trained in several models that embrace this idea, preparing me with the qualifications to effectively guide and support my clients. I have provided services to clients experiencing anxiety, depression, those who have been victims of abuse, family and marital conflict, addiction, anger management and any and all adults, children and adolescents in need of therapy services.
I also have experience working with teams and clients in the Sports and Performance industry who are experiencing difficulties in reaching and maintaining peak performance. In this realm I use my personal experience as a former collegiate athlete and coach, combined with my training as a clinician, to push past the daily boundaries through which many athletes face and onto the next level of competition. Individual therapy as well as group therapy can be used to potentially increase performance, mental fitness and resilience to engage the whole of the athlete.

I am so happy to be on the Blue Umbrella Psychiatry team. I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, perfectionism, and life transitions that have prevented them from showing up in their lives as their best selves.
I believe therapy can be fun but understand that for most it is a challenging process. I aim to
build a healthy and collaborative relationship with my clients so they can feel comfortable sharing. I use a candid and direct approach to help clients get to the core of the issues that are preventing them from implementing change.
I am trained in a systemic-based approach, while following an eclectic therapy style, tailoring my approach to fit the client, not making my client fit my approach. You can expect to be challenged, empowered, and validated throughout your sessions with me. I am excited to help you break through the barriers holding you back, so you can step into the life you want to live.

Therapist
My name is Ligia but you can call me Lea! My vision for clients coming into the therapy room is to have a nonjudgmental space where we can have a conversation to process the experiences you have had. My experience includes working with individuals, couples, and families who have experienced trauma, anxiety, attachment and relationship issues.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) which allows me to help individuals process and heal from trauma, distressing memories, and negative thought patterns. When I’m not using EMDR the models I use are Bowen's Family Systems and Emotionally Focused Therapy. These models allow us to identify generational patterns , process and understand our emotions, and differentiate who YOU want to be. Being trained systemically I am able to bring in other models and collaborate on what works best for you. Looking at the world in a systemic lens allows me to see how culture, family, spirituality, and society have played a role in your belief system and help decode what beliefs you would like to adopt.
The therapy room is your space—a place where we work together to support your growth and healing. I want to thank you for your time and congratulate you on taking your first step in your personal growth.
Therapeutic Dog
Hello everyone!! My name is Bean. 🐾
I am currently working with Lea to be the best therapy dog I can be. Lea rescued me in 2020 from the shelter- they told her that I was a chihuahua but we are working together to create my family tree.
I’m a bit of a shy butterfly when I first meet new folks, but give me a moment, and I’ll warm up quickly. Once I do, I’m all about turning on the charm and winning everyone’s hearts! I'm working hard to become the best cuddle buddy and stress-reliever around.
My mission? To spread joy, wag my tail, and make everyone feel loved. I may be in training, but I promise I'm already an expert in puppy eyes and capturing lizards. I promise to give you the space you need in the therapy room and protect you from any lizards
