About Spravato (esketamine)

Esketamine increases neuronal growth which enhances the brain's response to neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. This chain reaction improves the brain's response to psychiatric medications so that those who respond to Esketamine can then reduce other medications.

FDA guidelines involve nasal inhalation, administered under supervision by a trained mental health professional. Depending on the response, a few treatments may be all that is needed or more maintenance sessions might be recommended.

Benefits include:

  • Works faster than medications
  • Esketamine can allow for a reduction in suicidal thoughts and symptoms of depression - sometimes within hours. Studies indicate Patients who have been administered Esketamine have also seen improvement in symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Can provide lasting results
  • While it will likely take multiple treatments, it isn't a daily regimen as is medication
  • Usually covered by insurance
  • Most insurance providers cover treatments for patients who have tried other antidepressants without success
